transfer camcorder video to compter

I have a JVC GR-DVX78 camcorder and a laptop. I want to place my video footage place on my laptops c:\ I have an USB 2.0 data cable connect to the camcorder and the laptop. What other cables do I need? What software is need to do the transfer? Thks

Maybe this is your solution? You need a FireWire cable for this purpose, which is not included with the camera. You'll have to buy it separately. It's commonly called a DV cable, or iLink cable, or IEEE 1394 cable (they're all the same thing). For going from the camcorder to a laptop, you'll need one of these cables which has four pins at each end. For going from a camcorder to a desktop computer, you'll need one of these cables with four pins at one end and six pins at the other. You'll also need video capture & editing software. This should get you started
