The camera is a digital Canon model. I tried the software first on the mac side of my dual boot Macbook Pro. It transferred pictures the first time but not the second. I got an error that it didn't recognize my camera. Is that because my dual boot has a built in camera?
I had to use my Dell Windows computer.

NoThere's no need for all that hassle, there's no need to install the Canon software, and there's no need to fiddle with a cable to connect your camera to the computer.
Just buy a memory card reader.
Plug the reader into Mac or Windows PC.
Remove card from the camera.
Insert card into card reader.
Open folder containing pics on card.
Select and copy pics to hard drive.Job done.
