Streaming video/audio out of sync

Cannot get streaming video to play correctly, e.g.,
YouTube, ABC News, etc. I have installed Adobe's
software but with no luck. Are there specific plugins for
the Mac to play back downloads other than just
Quicktime??? VERY FRUSTRATING!!! Thanks for your
help!!!

I think VLC can be used on a MAC.
