Somehow and when this happened I do not know, but all of a sudden I can't open any streaming audio/video that uses Windows Media Player. Any time I go to a web page with a link to audio or video, a new window opens and states that there is no internet connection. This just happened recently, I assume that somehow a setting has been changed(I don't recall changing any). Any suggestions?

have you tried a system restore?

Sounds a bit like your firewall is blocking WMP.

Okay, well I'm not the only one having problems with this. There are a few others experiencing the same thing. We all have different IPs and different PCs. What we all have in common is that we use AVG free edition and that we have Windows firewall turned on. I turned the firewall off for a moment to see if that would do the trick--no luck. The other common factor is that we all downloaded and installed the most recent Microsoft Windows Updates. This seems like when the problem first came up. Now I have to check all of my restore points if I can either go back or else if I can use my uninstaller and delete the updates. This does not sound like fun. Have you heard of anyone else with the same problem?

It wouldn't be the first time a Windows Update has broken something. Which is why I have Automatic Updates switched off. I update manually (from another source), a few days (sometimes weeks) after each update is released (and bugs have been reported). This allows me to skip any problematic updates.

I didn't have any restore points before 12/11/07 which is when I downloaded and installed most of the current Windows Updates. I have never had problems with Windows Updates causing any programs before so this is new to me. Well, I went in and tried to uninstall each update individually and my whole pc just froze up when I tried to do that. I finally got it to restart and didn't try to uninstall again. Okay, what is going on now is that I do have capabilities of audio and video streaming on some web pages and not on others. I can listen/watch anything on MySpace, YouTube, Google with no problem. There are a few sites that link up to audio or video and that is no problem if I clink on the link but if I try to open up the link directly through my browser--it won't open, very odd. I'm going to wait a few days and see what happens next. My next step which I hate to do is call some guy in India with very broken English for Gateway Tech Support.
