I am trying to make movies with windows movie maker but it crashes when I try to use the video from my sony handycam dcr-sr85. I am running a dell 700m with windows xp sp3. I called sony support and they recommended I downgrade to XP sp2. I did but the problem still exists.
originally windows explorer would crash as soon as i opened the folder the .mpg's were in but i changed the registry key so autoplay wouldn't initiate on mpg's.

You may want to try temporarily removing the offending file neresize.ax from C:\Program Files\Movie Maker and then see if it lets you open MovieMaker as I do not find that file in any of the associated folders.

the neresize.ax file was not located in the windows movie maker folder. it is associated with nero. i temporarily removed the file and movie maker opened and i was able to import the video but only audio would appear. i restored teh original registry key for .mpg but movie maker would not open. the files from my camcorder would play on media player. so i think we are on the right track but i don't want to corrupt anything with nero.
