It's very likely that the memory card is faulty and is no longer usable.

You can try reading the card with a card reader which plugs into a USB port, that's the way most people transfer pics from a camera these days. Transferring pics by connecting the camera to the PC is unnecessarily fiddly and I dropped my camera once trying to do it that way.

If the card reader shows no pictures on the card, try recovery software, and if that doesn't find them I'm afraid you've lost them and you shouldn't use that card any more.

This is where you need to read the user manual for your camera before doing anything else. You might be doing something wrong (in Sony's opinion) so it might be worth a quick look.

What are you using for a memory card? Memory stick duo, pro duo, cf, microdrive?

invest in a usb card reader....real inexpensive anymore and works much better and faster than camera cable to PC. Then I would also recommend Picasa free from google:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_p...
It has an option to download it using picasa....works GREAT!

If your card shows empty I would recommend MiniToolPowerData recovery
http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/do...
...free for home use and much better and more thorough than Recuva...I know...I use it all the time on different clients PCs...
