Question: When I scan a single photo from my
flatbed scanner to my hard drive, is there
any way to save ONLY the picture itself,
WITHOUT all the wasted space surrounding
the desired photograph? -Please Advise.

How about adjusting the frame size in the scanner Preview to match the size of the image you are scanning?
It does require scanning the image an additional time for preview vs just scanning the image to the HD.

That's how I do it. If I am scanning many images then I sort them by size so I only have to scan each different size the one extra time to adjust the frame for that image size.

Bryco and XpUser, I just use Windows Scanner
& Camera Wizard. -However, I also have Irfan-
View, VicMan, HP ImageZone Plus, Microsoft
Photo Editor, MS Picture It, MS Photo Premium
10, and MS Plus Photo Story LE... Any add'l
insight you can provide will be much ap-
preciated.

It's just as Bryan has described - preview, then adjust, then scan. Fairly intuitive

Saying that XP is the most stable MS OS is like saying that asparagus is the most articulate vegetable

Maybe one of theose programs that you have is capable of cropping pictures. Using the cropping feature can eliminate the wasted space.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

I managed to "corral" the surrounding space
using Preview in Windows Scanning & Camera
Wizard...It's not perfect, but good enough
for E-mail. -My Thanks to everyone who re-
sponded.

If you set your scanner to scan your picture slightly smaller than the original then you will cut out any of the unwanted area that are not required. This will be of benifit if your pic is slightly out of square on the scanner bed and also gives a clear definition to the finished edges. Hope this tip helps
