My boss use to be able to insert his memory card, and by using the Scanner and Camera wizard, he was able to download his photos, name them and they would all be put into a nice neat folder everytime. He is not computer savy at all. One day i downloaded my own photos and screwed something up. Now when he goes to download photos, they are not thrown into a nice neat folder when he names the photos, they are just tossed into his "my pictures" folders. Really sounds like i will lose my job over this. he is so irrate over this he yells at me everyday about this. I know how to down the photos, choose the desination, add a new folder, name it, name the photos, but he doesn't. It use to be all automatic for him now there are too many steps. please help, I do not know how to reset this thing

Best I can offer is to suggest that you unchecked a couple of box's.

When XP detects the memory card it pops up a window asking what to do with the pics.

At the bottom of the window is a check box that asks:
Always use this program for this action.

Check the box and select the scanner & camera wizard.

A second window should now pop up and again at the bottom is a check box that asks:
Always do the selected action

Check the box and select copy pics to folder using wizard.

That gets you to the window where you name the pics and is probably where you want to be.

The next time through the first two windows will be skipped.

I've tried that but that's not what gets him upset. He is upset because he now has to figure out the path of the folder, meaning he has to hit the "browse" button, then find the pictures folder, then click the "make a new folder" button, then name it, then go back and name the series of pictures the same thing. Just those few extra steps are a learning curve for him and he swears he has never had to do this before.

What probably happened is you changed the folder location when you did your pic's.

In the Wizard, just after the steps above,
there should be a window that says at the top:

Picture Name and Destination

Selection Number 1 simply names the pictures what ever you choose.

Selection Number 2 selects the folder to copy the pictures to.
This defaults to the last location used and is probably where you changed it to someplace other than where your boss wants it to go.

Change it back to the location your boss wants and it will remain there until someone else changes it.

He will still have to create a new folder if he wants to separate his pics, unless he simply wants to put then all in one default folder with different names.

I have done that and their in lies the biggest problem, he doesn't want to have manually create a new folder everytime. He is under the impression that before I touched the computer that when he simply named the photos, it automatically put all the photos into a folder by the same name, without any extra effort on his part.

so in the wizard step after selecting the photos he wanted to download, all he had to do was then name them and they would actually be put into a folder automatically with the same name. I've never seen this done, I didn't even know this was possible but he is telling me that, that is what was happening until I got my paws on his computer

Is he using the Microsoft Scanner & Camera Wizard?
When he plugs in his memory card does he select the scanner wizard from the window that popups up or is there a shortcut on his desktop?

There is also a Microsoft Digital Import Wizard which is not the same as the Scanner & Camera Wizard.
I believe the Digital Import comes with the MS PictureIT software.

Here's a web page you can check:

I'm having the same issue and almost the same situation. I set up for him at one time the destintion folder to be something like
C:\DocandSet\user\Mydocs\picture\
and when he typed in the name of the group of pictures such as "Tom ThumB" it also filled in the folder at the same time to be
C:\DocandSet\user\Mydocs\picture\Tom ThumB
IBut I went and redirected it yesterday and I can't get it back. He is annoyed he now has to create a new folder. It used to do it for him before.

I solved my own issue. From other links I have done the following:

Go to Start> Run> Regedit> Hkey_Current_User>Software> Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>WIA>WiaAcquisitionManager. Right Click WIA and export save as WIA. Open WIAAcquistionManager and Delete DirectoryNameMRU.

Hook up camera and see if it works. If it does great. If not then you have the exported registry you can double click and it will set it back to how it was.

Not sure if there is a better way to do this but this worked for me.
