Is there a way to save and also retrieve files from a CF card that are other than image files (for instance .sit files)? So far I haven't been able to do that or rather figure out how to. This works with my PC (I have a Lexmark with a cardreader on it, but the lexmark doesn't work with my Mac (0s9.22). I also haven't been able to get the Mac to recognize my camera on it. I am in the process of trying to find something other than the the software that came with the camera (HP 318) which is limited on os 9.22.

I'm not following you. You state that it works on your PC using the Lexmark with card reader.

It sounds as if your problem is really that the Lexmak is not recognised by your MAC and neither is your camera. Doesn't sound like an issue with saving/retrieving files from the CF at all.

Is your lexmark connected directly to the network or to the PC? You may not be able to share it with the MAC if it is connected to the PC directly - a print server might help.

You should be able to connect the camera to your MAC though. Check the manufacturer's site for any required software. If it is not supported by MAC you could just buy an inexpensive dedicated card reader for the MAC.

Hi Michael J

OK this might be longish... hehe sorry but thanks for your help :D I downloaded software to my PC for my mac. One of them I just downloaded is for the Lexmark (the version on the cd that came with it is for os 10.X and therefore the mac 9.22 can't use it). I'm just not wholly sure of the software as it's not totally clear at the Lexmark site and my PC knowledge confuses me as I don't want to cause probs with the mac I can't fix like I can with the PC.

I haven't invested in a router/print server (is that the same thing?) as I wanted to work with the Mac and get a bit more proficient with it (and decide whether I wanted to buy a new PC or a new Mac) before investing money for things I wasn't sure I needed yet. For now I'm fine with just running them seperately and manually switching (if that is poss) what each needs as the mac can't be upgraded anymore and the pc can be but needs lots to do it (and both are losing support soon)..

My camera connects to the mac well the lexmark does too, but it seems to be the software issue. The software that came with the camera didn't recognize the camera (I looked my 318 and software up on google and it seems that it does have that issue, so I want to try another software called iview) but even still, on the PC nor the mac will it see other than image files...

I had a prob with my cd/dvd writer on my pc (issue with quartz.dll and kernel32) but I think I've got it fixed so I might be able to make a cd to do all this, I was just hoping to be able to do it by making use of my cf card to transfer large files as it is rewritable and on hand now.

I'll also try posting the question on the Mac forum

Thank You!

Um, yeah. Not sure what to say. if the software for your camera does not allow you to read/write non image files there's notthing that can be done. You should be able to do it when using the CF Reader in the printer though. but again, I'm not sure how you are connecting the computer or if you will be able to access it from both computers in your current setup.

I'm not so much wanting to access it, but rather just be able to get some of the larger files from my pc over to my mac. I am wanting to see which one I want to stay with and replace as seperate machines. Right now I am learning photoshop on mac. The main thing I guess I was hoping was to find maybe even another software that will enable transfer of all progs rather than just image files using my cf card (I know it's poss with PC. I have 3 cards, 20mb, 32mb and 64mb) other than buying a usb memory stick or a card reader. (If I end up staying with PC then I've bought redundant hardware and as it seems xp/PC is finding much more ways to make ppl pay for things they've already got and I'm hoping there's a way around that and just expanding the use of what I already have)

Oh the printer has Mac 10.x software on the cd and I think on the lexmark site it has os 9.22 but it is flash software and I'm leary of that as I'm not sure if that means it will no long be compatible with my PC
