renaming jpg files

all of a sudden I can not change the name of a jpg file in my pictures. I used to do it all of the time. Any suggestions??

One of your programs probably has the file(s) locked up. Reboot and that 'should' free them up, and let you do the renames.

tried the reboot~~didn't help~~if I try to rename the pic, I'll get a message that if I change file extension it may become unusable. If I continue I have to open useing windows pictures and fax. never had to do this befor. theresa
