|How do I try to recover the Pshop files deemed to be “invalid” ?..|
Using Win XP, Photoshop 5 and Gimp 2
I have many invalid photo files in my archive folders thro’ defragging my external HDD in error some years ago.
The P’shop messages, slightly abbreviated, read:
psd “could not open the doc ‘cos it is not a valid P’shop doc.”
jpg “Could not open the doc because an unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found.”
Gimp messages read:
psd “Error loading PSD File. Not a valid P’shop doc.”
jpg “JPEG image plugin could not open image.”
I read somewhere long ago that P’shop added a mini file to each file. What are they ?
Maybe these have become separated from the parent file or lost altogether in defragging or attempts at recovery
If a thumbnail shows in a folder view, the file will open. If the P’shop logo only for a psd or jpeg shows, then it opens as an “invalid” message.
Some of these photos I need to re-print. If impossible, with sadness, I will delete all invalid files in my photo archives to remove wasted space as well as delays and disappointment in trying to process them.
Is there any way I can try to recover the files deemed to be “invalid” ? Open as TIFFs ?
