I want a program to go with my scanner to copy film and digital pictures onto my harddrive.

The scanner has to have a graphic manipulation program of some sort to scan to the hd.

I would like one that is quite sophitcated like photoshop, but is preferably free. I was using GNU's gimp, but is not really a scan picture to hardrive application. Plus non-windows application always have trouble with propreitary formats such as jpeg.

I would also like an program that is very user friendly for this same purpose, maybe something from kodak.

I just don't know the specific name of the types of programs I want.

Could in not just a porgram like word or windows picture and fax viewer.

Mad and confused, please help

WEll I know a program thta will do some of what you want and it is freeware. Go to xnview.com they have different versions and languages. It is an image editing program but can be used to aquire images from a scanner or other medium. It is not as good as using my other program which is Paint shop pro but you get what you pay for. I must admit though Xnview is very stable and handles more formats(yes jpg) than Paint shop pro....well at leats the old version that I have. If you have more questions about it let me know!
