I am using an Epson 1640SU Photo scanner and whilst it has been fine with normal scanning, this is not the case now I am trying to scan some colour negs. The scans come out cut off, sometimes with the lay of the film sometimes across it, I have studied the manual for Epson Twain but still can`t work it out. I am using Xp SP3.

Are you using a negative adaptor?
Photographs use reflected light, negatives have to have light shone through them.

Thanks StuartS, I am using the correct adapter but I can`t reason why once in a while it will produce a perfect scan then no more that session. I have now borrowed an Epson 1670 to finish the job.
