Does anyone know if the Prassi Primo 2-0.766 CD-R/DVD writer is obselete ? I have one installed on a PC given me by a friend (HP D8170NDW with XP and SP2) but when I want to record MP3 audio (free off the net) to a CD-R it says ‘MP3 is not recognized as acceptable audio file. A valid file is 44.1 KHz, 16 bit, Stereo or Microsoft WMA if you have proper support installed on your system’. The recorder box on my version states ‘(E) IDE-CD R/RW 12x8x32’ and my new blank CD-R has 52x2x48 printed on it. Would greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks…

It's more likely a limitation of the burning software you are trying to use. Please post back with the name and version number of your burning software.
Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

Thanks your response Sci-Guy. Have been searching the system and can't find any direct reference to name/version of burning software. All I can add to original post is that MP3's were downloaded via Windows Media Player 9, that I have Standard CD-DVD drives, and that the Prassi Primo has the name Veritas Software Group on it. Nothing related to burning software in Add/Remove programs either, or that I can find in System Information. A software sticker on the tower says Atomix MP3, New DJ. If I knew where else to look/search I would. Not much help - sorry, but appreciate your offer.
