How do i know whether my computer is a plus or a minus when buying cds/dvds to burn photos & video footage off my dell inspiron 530 computer please?

Almost certainly the drive will be able to read & write to both types of DVD discs (there is no such thing as 'plus' for CDs, they are either CD-R or CD-RW).

However, for confirmation, look in Device Manager and it will show the model number of the DVD drive. Google that to find a page which tells you all the info about it, or post the model number here as a new topic.

As mentioned, virtually every DVD-writer made over the past several years can handle DVD+R or DVD-R media. While there are slight advantages on either side, what you may want to consider is if you want to use the discs in other equipment you have (DVD player, Divx Player, other PC), which may be a little more picky on what it would accept as valid media...

Also many DVD players may require that the disk be finalized.
