Right click a WMV file, select 'Open with' and then 'Choose program'. Browse to find Real Player and select it. Note the 'Always use the selected program ...' option.

Although I have dual booting system, I was referring to win98 when I posted the query. And win98 does not have the facility of choosing the program.

Yup, I haven't run win98 for a while and my memory is really bad. I found the following in my Win98 notes:
If you want to change the program that opens a file Select the file, hold down the shift key, right click on it and select 'Open with' Scroll down the list to find the application that you want to open it with Notice the 'Always use this program ...' option.
If you don't have any luck, go to the Win98 forum and ask 'How do I change the association for a WMV file to Real Player'.
