Photos Scanned to JPG Problem

I used HP Photo & Image Gallery to scan, add title, and save photos to a JPG file. The program initially saves the scanned photo as a TIFF file and when I make amendments I save it as a JPG file.
The JPG photo has weird lines added on the top half - almost like magnetic lines - I wish I could post the two photos here so you can see what I mean.
If anyone is experienced using this program (HP Photo & Image Gallery) drop me a line at pdaigneault@rogers.com and I'll send you the two photos. I have quite a few to scan but these added lines are ruining the shots.
