I have a PCI Tuner card in my PC at home which allows me to Schedule and Record TV into MPEG format.
What i want to do is AVOID having to convert the file to DVD and Burn to a DVDRW disc.
I have a male VGA Plug(I think that is what it is called) on the back of my PC and a VGA(male also i think from memory) Plug on the back of my TV.
If i buy a lead from one to the other(about 2.5mtrs long), can i simply PLAY the MPEG file on the PC(Real Player) and will it Play OK(or at all) on the TV also ?
I tried to burn the MPEG as a Data DVD but my JVC DVD Player will not recognise the Disc.
I am trying to avoid the Conversion time to DVD format each time.

Is there a quick way to play a MPEG back on a TV by another method?
I do not seem to have any settings for the PCI Tuner Card to Record to ANY Other format other than MPEG.

It depends on whether or not your PC's RCA plug (female has a hole, male has a protrusion) is a TVout socket or not. A TVout socket is usually part of the video card.

The plug on the back of my PC is basically the same pin number, but the opposite to the Monitor plug. It has pins protruding out of it. It is next to the Onboard MO outlets.
So to me i would need a female plug to plug into it??
I also have a S Video outlet on the PCI Tuner card and a Yellow RCA Female outlet on the Tuner card.
Does a RCA Yellow plug lead plugged into my PC Tuner card and run to my TV give me a Picture ? No audio though?

Audio (sound) and Video (picture) on the PC is on different connections. If you have a red RCA that is for the sound. For stereo there may be a white RCA. The sound can also come from a mini-jack from either the tv tuner card or the sound card. The yellow is typically for the video. There may be also video output from an S-Video connector.

coreytroy:

Check the manual for your tuner card and read what it has to say about all of the TV Tuner card's jacks. That rca jack may be a composite video in (for connection directly "from" a VCR or DVD player.) Some TV tuner cards do have video outputs, some do not. Also, like Sci-Guy said, check your video card to see if it has an RCA or S-Video connector on it, if it does than that can output to TV.

The tuner card does have a S Video plug.
But is that for OUTPUT or input?
The manual is very vauge and is lucky to be readable as is.

Post some specs, so we can help you further.

1. Computer brand/model
2. Video card brand/model
3. Tuner card brand/model

That tuner card doesn't have any output sockets, only inputs. I also doubt that your motherboard would have a TVout socket (at least, I've never known onboard video to have TVout).

You'll need additional hardware to do what you want.

Thanks for the reply Sci-Guy.
Can you recommend a lower end ($$) PCI Tuner card that will do the job for me?
Or alternately(have another empty PCI slot) can i add an output socket PCI card also, or are they ONLY found on Tuner Cards?

TVout is usually associated with the video card. If you don't have an AGP slot, you'll have to look for a PCI video card. Just be sure to get one with TVout.

Alternatively, you could use a VGA splitter and a VGA to composite convertor. I've never gone this route, but I know these items are available.

coreytroy just to clarify:

TV Tuner Cards are INPUT Devices.

Graphics Cards are OUTPUT Devices.

If you want both look for an ATI All-in-Wonder Card like:

http://www.trustedreviews.com/graph...

Though you may find older models thru EBAY!!

There's quite a difference between PCI and PCI-E.
If your motherboard doesn't have PCI-E(xpress) slots, then that card won't be of any use to you.
PCI video cards are becoming harder to find, but there are still a few around.
Here's one
And Another

See what you mean about PCI-Express.
My PC is about 3-4yrs old, and i found that it is a Shuttle MB48/MB48N, and can only accept PCI not PCI-E and has NO AGP slot.

All-in-Wonders were available as PCI, why wait to POST16 to list your specs?

EBAY is the place to look.......

Agree, eBay is the place to find ANYTHING.
You just need to know what things are worth beforehand, as you can pay more than retail prices if you are not careful.
Is this one the one i need?

I have found a few of these: ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon on eBay but they are ALL for AGP slots, where my MO does not have one.

Coreytroy, contrary to what some have said, TV tuner cards "can" have video output. Take a look at the Hauppauge WinTV PVR-350: http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/prod... "Included in the WinTV-PVR-350 package...A/V breakout cable with S-Video, composite video and stereo audio out" and later in the same section "WinTV2000 application for TV in a window, Program Pause, TV record and video playback, plus TV output"

We also need to know what sort of video inputs are on the TV. You mentioned it has composite (RCA jack.) Does it also have S-Video? Newegg has many PCI slot video cards with "TV out" see: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...
There are a few composite only, some only S-Video and some that do both, starting at 33USD.
