PC Photo files to SD Card

I've read that you can transfer photos from you pc to an SD card. Aren't the SD slots on the computers "readers" only?

They are called card readers but you can also write files them. The SD card will appear as a removable drive and you use it just like any other drive.

Thank you. I'm going to try it. I'd like to view some photos thru my Wii console. So I'll try to download some photos onto the SD card.
