panasonic nv-gs120 bad in low light

Panasonic / Nv-gs120

Specs: Windows Vista
This 3ccd camera should shoot better than it does in low light. Can anyone tell me why this is? I can change the mode to manual for better low light conditions but than the camera shoots in smear mode, (very low shutter speed so everything moving is blurred) which is un-usable. Is this camera that bad in low light or is there something else I can do to help the camera?

I mean when I say low light, I'm not even talking dark outside.

I think 3 ccd's have worse low light performance. How low is low? Is daylight performance OK? normal room light?
