Comment: Hi I have a digital picture frame with a 1gb SD card & am trying to organise around 600 pictures into the order that the pictures were taken. I have all the pictures organised on my hard drive but when I copy them all & paste on to the card (using a USB card reader), the pictures transfer in a completely different order I have tried just transferring 50 at a time..no joy. Tried organising the card, using explorer, into DATE MODIFIED order...no joy The only way i can do it, is to copy & paste one at a time BUT with over 600 pictures I am going to here until Christmas Any ideas anybody ? Cheers Saint

Reply: (edit)What does the order in which the files "appear" on the SD card matter? The files, when viewed, are no different than a hard drive in that as you copy new ones over with an open window, the new ones go to the bottom. But, if you reopen it in explorer you will see them in the default sort order - usually alphabetical. But, the order that the photos "appear" should have no bearing on how they are accessed. What are you trying to achieve? If you want them to appear in a certain order, then you should name them such that the name are in alphanumerical order of how you want them to appear. Michael J

Reply: (edit)Maybe I'm not understanding, but I don't understand what your issue is. Files on a hard drive are not saved in a sequential order - they just appear that way when viewing them. They are actually saved all over the hard drive in many different pieces. An SD card would be similar in that you can't actually see where the files are physically stored on the card. If you want to view them in sequential order then click the "name" column in Explorer and they will appear sequentially. Michael J

Reply: (edit)Well it would be important for me as I have the same problem transferring pictures to a SD card to a Picture Frame! Clearly I want the sequence to be decided by me and not arbitarily by Windows! I have tried naming them sequentially and that makes no difference. So any ideas? Chris

Reply: (edit)I just took a look at the manual for a digital picture frame and it mentions no functionality to order the photos. In fact it didn't state anything about how the pictures would be ordered. Based upon the previous posts it sounds like it *may* be by creation or access date, since those both get reset when copying to a new source. You could create a script to transfer your files one at a time based upon title to get them in that order. Michael J
