I'm having trouble capturing a VHS video to my computer. I believe (although I am not sure) that the problem is caused by the fact that the video was made in the NTSC format and we use the PAL format here in Israel. When I try to capture using my Asus V9520 graphic card (with my "National" - converting format - video player plugged into it), it shows up in black and white. I've tried various software (including Ulead), but it doesn't make a difference. I've tried searching for different settings in the "Display Properties", but found nothing that made any difference. I have no problem capturing a PAL video. Can anyone tell me what I can do to correct this? Is there some sort of setting that has to be made to the video card? If so, where? Thanks

The computer will flip between PAL and NTSC, it makes little difference to it. If your video player is playing NTSC you should capture in NTSC. You then have an avi (probably) which should play on your pc ok. If you want to make a DVD of this then it is the DVD authoring software that makes the change to mpeg2 format that a DVD uses. NTSC has different frame rates, picture size and colour rendering to PAL so you will get some "Transription artefacts". A lot of modern DVD players especialy multiregion ones will play NTSC anyway as region 1 is the USA which will be NTSC

Thank you for your reply. In the end I contacted Asus and they told me that graphic/capture cards are set to either NTSC or PAL (so I suppose it does make a difference to the computer). Some cards have a jumper that can be moved to either the PAL or NTSC position, while others are permanently set and can't be changed. The whole thing with the software is after the fact. The programs can change the NTSC to PAL nicely, but they will capture just what they see - and unfortunately mine sees only black and white.
