I connected my new HD camcorder by Firewire to my computer to capture video, using Nero Vision from update 7.2.03b. The software detected my camcorder and I was able to capture. But, when I went to burn "automatically compress video to fit the DVD" option did not work. So I updated Nero to 7.10.1.2, and now I can nicely encode and burn the long video to a single DVD. However, now Nero Vision won't let me capture from the playback pass-through mode anymore! The record button in Nero Vision is greyed out! Same thing with my older camcorder. So I had to roll back to 7.2.3.2b to capture again.

Nero is crap and I will never buy any Nero product again.

What is the most stable consumer video capture and burn software? Pinnacle? Roxio?

I've never had any luck trying to capture with Nero (several versions). Didn't you get any capture software with your camera? I've used Cyberlink's PowerVCR II for many years and it hasn't failed me yet.
