I am trying to figure out how to burn my video files from my camcorder (Sony DCR-HC32) onto a DVD. I moved the video file from the Memory Stick onto my computer, then I was going to be attempt to burn it to a dvd. I opened up my NeroSmart Start program and chose Burn DVD-video files. I tried to put my video file into the list, to be burned, but it said "No Compatible File Found." the movie files end with MPG. any ideas? i've never used Nero before and can't seem to figure it out?
any help woudl be greatly appreciated.
thanks!
Julie

I am using NeroExpress 6 (version 6.6.0.8)
I do not have Nero Burning Rom on this software package. I got some kind of message about downloading Nero Burning Rom and wondered if that might have something to do with not being able to burn a DVD with NeroExpress???

You don't need Nero burning ROM.

Open NEROVISION EXPRESS. Under what would you like to do, click Make DVD, then DVD-Video. On the next screen click Add Video Files, navigate and select your MPEG file. If it will not open check that the file name is correct.

It does not work. I opened up NeroVision Express. There is no option for Make DVD. There is a Make CD option. When cursor on that I get 2 options: 1. Video CD and 2. Other Video Formats. When I cursor on Other Video Formats, I get the message: "Selecting this Option will display information on how to burn video to DVD-Video and SuperVideoCD(SVCD.) These formats require the purchase of an additional plug-in due to patent license restrictions for encoding and decoding MPEG-2 files."
So.. what do you make of that? ARe they talking about Nero Burning Rom? I think the extensions on my video files are .MPG if i remember correctly and I did notice when i was trying to move the files in it didn't have any of those extensions listed for files to search for??
Frustrating!

OEM versions don't include all the features. Sorry but it won't allow you to burn a DVD.

You could however, download the Nero trial version. That will do it.

I use Nero 6 Ultra Edition. Works very well for me plus I only paid $20 after rebates from Fry's Electronics for the software.

Best to Google and read the reviews for various products before you buy.Like I said before, you might want to try the trial download before you commit to anything.

Good luck.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT???!!!

You can burn dvd's with oem versions... all the options ARE there. My version is oem and I can certainly burn.

If nero is not listing dvd options it is because for some reason it does not see your dvd burner and therefore does not believe you have one.

Go to msconfig and see if nero drive check is there and enabled.

NeroCheck is there and enabled.

On the back of the cd sleeve it does say next to NeroVisionExpress3 "Special versions that do not support SVCD and DVD-Video."

i got this off ebay.. on the front of the cd it says "Bundle with CD/DVD recorder only. Not for Resale."

i know it doesn't have the Nero Burning ROM on it... ????

I said OEM versions don't include all the features of the retail. This is true. The features they leave out depends on the version. I had an OEM version that came with an old burner that I bought which does not include the DVD-Video plug-in too.

My full version help file states:
"The DVD-Video plug-in is already included in retail version."

my version states that the DVD plug-in is not available, but i can download it.

so i think rhawk is correct in saying that the version i have is not capable of burning dvd's.

I've bought 3 different dvd burners. All came with FULL working versions of nero 6 (not to mention the burners that I have bought and returned) I have yet to see a LIMITED version. What the heck is the sense in supplying burning software with a new dvd burner if you can't use the software to burn dvd's????

Every so often, I do come up with my menu being short of the dvd option, but it has always been traced backed to the fact that for some reason or other Nero did not see my burner. Several times I have had to screw around with nero drive check as well as my burner drivers to get nero to see the dvd burner.

julie, I had the same problem. I tried all kinds of drivers for my DVD burner, switched them out and spent countless hours tring to fix it. I really didn't want to pay $25 for some plug in but I bit the bullet. Entered my credit card, nero emailed me a code and directions. Now I can burn DVDs. Actually I am burning right now.
