Nero Crashes When Burning

I've read alot of nero questions here but I didnt see one that quite touched on mine.
I recently hooked an external DVD burner to my computer and installed the Nero Vision Express software that came with it. It was great for awhile but suddenly it's just died on me. I can set everything up, get to the point that it transcodes the video. That usually takes 1-2 hours. And then it goes into burn mode. And thats where it stops. What should only take 10 minutes turns into a mess. It begins the burn, gets about halfway through and crashes. I've tried everything that I can think of but can't get it to work. I read elsewhere (another forum maybe) where others had the same problems but I never saw a solution. Do any of you have any ideas what I can do to get things working again? And if its hopeless, could you recommend better DVD burning software?

How about a Nero uninstall/reinstall?

I had an OEM version of Nero that I got with a Sony DVD burner. I had lots of problems with it. It would just quit for no reason when editing and quit when burning too. I bought the retail version and have had no problems since then. Works perfectly.
You don't mention your processor, but you should get more ram, 512 minimum.
