My computer will read an SD memory card, but

Specs: Windows XP
I have a 2GB SanDisk Ultra II SD card. When I put it in my PC, I can view the pictures/video without issue.

My Dad just purchased an 8 GB SDHC (also SanDisk) card. We've taken pictures and video, but the PC will not allow us to open the pictures/video files.

Is there any particular reason why this is occurring?? Is there a way I can fix this problem??

I would gladly let my Dad take my two 2 GB cards on his trip, but he's worried that he would loose one or possibly both of them somehow. So, we bought the 8 GB to give him the ability to fit more media on one card....any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you actually see the files on the card? If so, have you tried doing a copy/paste of the files to your hard drive?

Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

Thanks for the response. I think I figured out the problem. The drive says "SD" not SDHC. I've heard that if the computer is older, it won't read high capacity cards (my computer is only 3 years old - maybe 4 at the most). I've been able to upload pictures and videos by using the USB cable and camera itself.

I wanted to take the short cut of just popping the card into the drive and copy/paste. It's what I do with my own memory card and I find that much easier. Oh well. You win some and loose some I guess! :)

Thanks again.
