media player 7.1 won't play mpegs

I have Media Player 7.1 It's playing wmv files just fine. When I try to play an mpeg, nothing happens for about a minute while it's downloading. Then another screen opens and the movie plays in Quicktime. Please somebody help! Thanks.

try setting the MP7 to be the default player for mpegs. I find Quicktime a real pain in the butt, reminds me of trashy aol software that always wanted to dominate a PC. I don't install Quicktime unless I really have to for a certain app

Thanks but I've already done that. When I go to play an mpeg, if I hold the enter key it eventually opens a new window and plays in a small quicktime screen. If I don't hold the key then nothing at all happens. Other formats play fine. What gives??

What happens if you right click on the Mpeg, choose a program to open it with and then check it off as the default player for that kind of file?
