I need to make an audio book for a local reader and author. I've been playing with Audacity and others which will work.

My question is: how do I break up their files (if I do) to fit the book on multiple cds? What file format do I end up with (commercial books are .cda)?

I would suggest gettting a 'ripper' to convert the CDA files to WAV or MP3. I think there are some free ones available.

Then you can use Audacity to edit the WAV or MP3 files.

To convert the WAV or MP3 files to CDA and burner them on CDs, you can use just about any CD recording program.
