I do alot of photography and photoshop design work and I am thinking of getting a monitor so I can have my laptop on two screens.
1. Is this possible? I have a vga output
2. Will I need a monitor the same resolution as my laptop screen to avoid distortion?
Thanks

If you have a vga output then yes it is possible. You can extend your desk top to another monitor of the same OR different resolution.

So I can have my laptop at 1280 x 800 and an external screen at say 1920 x 1050?
My video card goes upto 2500 x 2500 or something similar.
When I had a desktop I couldnt have a 17inch LCD and a 20inch LCD both running at different resolutions.
Why is it not the same on my laptop?Living on a steady diet of....soda pop and ritalin

I have a dual monitor system. My main is a 25.5" 16:9 wide screen at 1920x1200 and my second is a 22" 4:3 at 1280x1024.
It all works fine (that's with XP and Vista).... granted I have a desk top and dvi ports instead of vga, but it should amount to the same thing on your laptop.

Ok well when I go to work tomorrow I will give it a shot.
I will let you know how it goes. No doubt I will need further help with it.Thanks for the replies.

Yes, I'm wondering the same as #5. How's it working? BTW... I have an "HP laptop, #zv5330us", which also supports dual monitors; good thing since the backlight on the monitor has gone out (I suspect a faulty "hybernation switch", as when I 'tap' it, repeatedly, the light 'wants' to work).
My question... "Is it possible to get both monitors 'active and relavent' at the same time? If so, how?" Nothing is in the owner's manual. I connect the second monitor via 'VGA', and so far, can only select "one, or the other."

I havent been yet. I am due in on friday so I will let you know, sorry. :)
