.jpeg brightness lower after editin

my friend created an avatar for me .. its a .jpeg file .. i decided to change it a bit (small change ) after that the image looks dull .. the original .jpeg image was brighter ..

why is that ?

It's a bit difficult to tell, without knowing what "small change" you made.

i just covered a small watermark by copy pasting a part of the avatar over the watermark

solved it ..
:)

i been doing this little editing in ms paint ..
then i download betterJPEG and edited in that .. the avatar didnt lose any quality ..!
