I had party recorded professionally. However the DVD's received, seem to play on certain DVD players only. They will not play on any computer/laptops? Any ideas what to check or look out for?

Thanks

Not sure what your first sentence means. But, I am guessing you mean that you had some DVD produced by a company.

It sounds as if the company that produced these DVDs inserted some DRM (Digital Rights management) onto the discs to prevent you from making additional copies. The problem with DRM is that some players may not be able to play them because the discs no longer adhere to the standard.

If the DRM is using some autorun software to prevent you playing on a PC you should be able to play the disc by holding down the shift key when inserting the disc (this will prevent any autorun processes from executing). However, they could also have installed a rootkit on any computer that has already had the discs inserted into. If that is the case I would demand the company give instructions for removing the rootkit or threaten a lawsuit. Sony is in current litigation over the same thing.

Michael,

thanks for the reply. There were 4 copies made, one for each person. However one home DVD player seems to play all copies ok but the other three players will not play any of the DVD's.

Tried your suggestion of holding down the shift key on the PC. still does not even recognise the disk as installed?

I am at a loss?

Thanks

It may simply be a case of DVD+R vs DVD-R. Some players don't handle both, as is also the case with DVD-Rom drives.

Why not ask the person that "professionally" produced them? Find out which format he used - or +DVD.
If it is a problem using one kind, ask him to record them on the other to see if that works. Sounds like the home player was more modern and accepts all formats.
Most new internal DVD writers now are + and - from what I understand.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks
