I was wondering if somebody can help me here; I'm getting gray hair over this, lol. I am having difficulty in viewing video clips. A good example of a clip is on this tv station in Boston; www.thebostonchannel.com
Can somebody please go to that website and click any video news clip, and tell me what codec is needed to play it?

I'm having a devil of a time... I use my Creative Audigy Soundblaster 2ZS Mediasource player for both my audio and video. But when I try to view a news clip, the colors are way over-saturated and over-bright. Almost like an old film negative from yesteryear...only extremely bright vivid colors.

I hope to continue using this player because I like it. I'm hoping that maybe I am missing a specific codec, or have something configured wrong. I really hate to install Windows Media Player because of past experiences where it tries to take possession of all my audio files too.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Good morning... I am using Internet Explorer 6 for my browser. I ran the flashplayer verification to make certain I have the latest, and all is fine there. I don't think I have shockwave though; not sure if that is causing this..

What's baffling is I have two Dell's here, and all videos play fine one one, but not the other. And I can't pinpoint what the problem is as all settings are configured the same.

On the one that plays those vids fine, I did install Windows Media Player because I was directed to do so on another forum. Surprisingly, the vids started to play fine after that, even though I don't use WMP; and I use my Creative MediaSource player! Maybe the WMP installed a proper codec???

So I installed WMP on this computer... still wont play the news videos. So I am really baffled on this one... At least the problem computer is my spare pc, and not my primary one.... but, I am so curious why the the news videos will not play on this spare pc.

I browsed many, many forums yesterday to see if anyone else encountered a situation like mine. I couldn't find anything, but I did come across where someone installed a "pack of codecs". I don't know anything about codecs.... nor would I know where to install them. Would they be installed in my Creative Audigy Mediasource player??? I'm stumped on that one too...

I also browsed around the Creative Audigy website, but I didn't see any update for my particular version here. In case it helps, I am using...... Creative Audigy Soundblaster 2-ZS; version 5.12.04.0445.

If anyone could share some expertise, I'd really appreciate it. I'll check this thread later on today, as I have a medical appt this morning. But I'll be back here later this afternoon.
Thank you XpUser4Real for replying here..

Well... here's a five-day update, in case anyone was following the thread. I still have the same problem with the video...
I did a "fall cleanup" and did a total reinstall/format of XP. I installed WMP, and I did not install my Creative Audigy one as I wanted to do this test first.

Same problem.... those news videos play in psychedelic, bright colors and are un-watchable. All my drivers are fine, and my computer is a new Dell E-510. So the mystery goes on.....

Anyways, just thought I'd give this update in case anyone else might have a similar situation like mine; or in case anyone was simply following it...

Please feel free, anyone... if you can maybe shed a ray of sunshine here.

Many thanks!

Check the refresh rate/screen resolution on the monitor?

Thanks everyone... To my surprise the problem is resolved. While browsing around the Microsoft website, I somehow stumbled onto a updated Microsoft codec package. I figured I had nothing to loose so I downloaded it, then rebooted.
I'll be darned... all the videos play fine now. I would assume that I was missing some codecs, or maybe the codecs I had were old; that's the only thing I can think of.

I wanted to post the resolution here in case it might help out somebody else with a similar situation as I had.

Thanks guys very much... I appreciate the replies and advice very much!!
