Hi there!

I have a movie which reads "...DVDRip.XviD.CD1.WAF.avi" and I'm not able to play it using Cyberlink PowerDVD, DivX Player, or Windows Media Player...
Am I missing any codec or shall I get another player for this WAF thing? What is this WAF file anyways?

Thanks for your time,
Alicia

A waf file is normally a linux file, but your file ends in .avi...a normal video file. My guess is you have a codec problem. Have you downloaded the K-lite codec pack ? It seems to have most things needed.

I wonder what'll happen if I do this ?

Gspot will tell you what codec is needed, and whether or not it's installed on your machine.

Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

It seems pretty plain from the file name that it's an XVID AVI file, 'ripped' from a DVD and recoded to fit on a CD (part 1 of 2 or more)

Did you think those were just arbitrary or random letters?

Try using VLC media player

Thanks for your answers...!

Gspot said that all my codecs were installed, but gave an interesting note: "394MB unneeded bytes at end of file".... I played the file on my husband's VLC media player, and it only showed a trailer with Korean subtitles of what was supposed to be a movie...and it stopped at the 2:50 minutes...
So I guess it was a corrupted file in the end...

Well, it may have been created 'bad' or become corrupted during download - 394Mb would be (at best) over half the file

The filename suggests a bittorrent download - you should look to the source for any further explanation of its content. Often those are broken up into multiple (spanned) archives with WinRAR or similar application, and the complete set is required to recreate the target file

... as mentioned, it's not a 'WAF' file - the extension (last symbols following the final 'dot') is the convention for indicating filetype - -if 'WAF' has any significance at all, it would relate to the title of the video or filmclip
