How do I play an avi file and the srt file together? I have K-Lite Codec Pack 1.69 installed, both files are in the same folder, but I can't see the subtitles in any of my players (DivX, Windows Media Player, Power DVD).
What am I missing? All help welcome!
My suggestion would be to download VLC Media Player which is free and available from www.vidolan.org In VLC you go to File / Open File and in the window that appears you have the choice to use a 'subtitles' file along with choosing the video file itself. The .srt file is the subtitle file.
In Windows Media Player there is an option under Play to turn on subtitles if available but I believe that is only for embedded ones.
On the other players I don't know but perhaps others can help.

Thanks DocMemory!
VLC player seems to work just fine...I've already had problems with the other players and many other people have already told me to switch to VLC media player...
Would it be wise to uninstall DivX player as well? Or are there any codecs that my K-Lite Codec Pack does not have...?Thanks again for your time!
All help welcome!
You can have multiple players, it's no big deal, although you may want to set one or another up as the default player for various file types. Sure, you could probably remove the DivX player, but you'd want to keep the DivX6 codecs (I'm not sure if they're also in the K-lite pack) - it's hardly worth the effort seeing as the whole DivX installation file is under 15Mb
As mentioned, VLC as well as Media Player Classic (doubtless others) can play subtitle (SRT etc) files, you just need to make that selection when starting the video - 'embedded' subtitles are different, and there is more support for those, but that too is a selection, depending on the player
I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. I simply suspect that if Microsoft ever met up with the devil, it wouldn't need an interpreter.
Thanks jboy and docMemory for your prompt answers! :-) All help welcome!
