How do I get pics off a memory card I/O error

January 10, 2011 at 07:15:11
Specs: Windows XP
I have an 8GB card full of Italy trip pics when I took it out of my camera & put it in my card reader, error I/O device appeared. Is it possible to retrieve my pics? A friend has a ghost program but wants to format my card and then try to retrieve them. Is that recommended?

Formatting isn't going to help retrieving your pictures, in fact it could make it harder. If you are getting an I/O error this would indicate a hardware problem and not a file corruption problem. Do not let your friend format your card. Try a different card reader. It could be that your card reader can't read an 8 gig card. You could also try a recovery program like Recuva, although as I mentioned, this seems more like a hardware issue and not corrupt files so I'm not sure recovery software would work but it couldn't hurt to try.

'so I sent my SD card to them and about a week and half later they sent me an email that said they had recovered all 587 pictures and 6 videos from it! I was amazed!'
To a tune of how many dollars?

jamielee5656, nice try at spamming.
Recuva will recover the pics as mentioned...and FREE

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
