How do i fix a blurry lens?

Specs: Windows 7, Pentium 4 2GHz
My Camera is an DSLR. Canon Eos 500 D . The Problem is, Whenever i Zoom in and out the lens, What i see is blurry, and when i take a picture or video, it is very blurry. But when i focus on something, It is clear. But when i take pictures of other people. It is so very blurry. :(
Help me pleasee. Is the lens broken or there is something to fix?

The filter on the sensor may need cleaning. This is located inside the camera body, behind the lens, but cleaning it requires a fair amount of care so as not to scratch it as a new sensor filter will be expensive to replace because it can only be replaced by the camera maker.

Buying purpose-made cleaning products is recommended for cleaning the sensor filter, and there's a tutorial here:

It's an expensive camera you have and I would personally not recommend messing with it as you can do a lot of damage to the sensor. Because you mention that when you focus on something it is clear, that implies that the autofocus within the lens isn't working, so, for a start, check that it isn't something obvious like your focus settings set incorrectly - have you accidentally set it to 'manual' for example? If you are sure the settings are correct then get it checked out at a camera dealer.

I had a top brand Fuji camera (not a DSLR) with the same focus problem...if I remember correctly, when I sent it for repair they replaced the automatic ccd sensor and it works great again.
