Ok, here's the deal, I have a bunch of home movies that were on vhs which I transferred to dvd with a JVC home dvd burner. There are lots of videos which were all mixed onto single vhs tapes "birthdays, xmas, reunions, etc." To make it simple I just made exact copies of the vhs tapes to dvd.

Now everything is on dvd's I would like to transfer them all to my computer, edit & sort everything out, then re burn back to dvds. You know putting all the holidays & other occasions per separate dvd's.

So I came here to ask, what would software would I need to capture dvd to my pc, edit it, and re burn back to dvd?

With currently 17 hours worth of video I figured this would be easier then recording a bit, swapping tapes, fast forwarding or rewinding to find something related, recording a bit more, swapping tapes again, etc.... Would have been a whole lot easier if the dvd recorder had some kind of dvr or something but sometimes ya gotta work with what you have.

I think windows movie maker can do that. Saw some posts on media player doing it but never tried it.

Pinnacle studio's 12 finally works, might look at it.

There are opensources live cd's that might suit you but a steep learning curve.

Might also depend on the way the disk was made. Might be a format that might need vlc to open or other player. Might have to finalize the disk to read in your computer.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

There finalized, ready to play in anything.

Windows movie maker doesn't want to import vob files. ?

Guess i'll have to look into a way to rip to hard drive first so i'll have something to work with.

There are 2 software needed.
First, use DVD Copy tool to your PC, Wondershare DVD Copy is recommended, which is easy to use.

Second, use a DVD Creator tool to burn your video to DVD, Wondershare Video to DVD Burner can help you get it done.
Also it allows you to edit the video freely.

May it help you.
