Burning a dvd/file on 4.7gig dvd disc works fine on my machine (with Nero burn and other programms). but i have a large dvd file i want to burn on a 8.5gig dvd disc, when i insert this 8.5g disc in the dvd drive it does not recognise it, because when i click burn button the system simply says: "Please insert a disc on the drive"

Is there any software programm that can support burnig this 8.5g disc or can anyone advice me on the way out?

Look on the front of the drive - it will state either "Dual" or "Double Layer". If not then it will only support single layer - up to about 4.7gb.

If you want to do a "back up" copy of a dual layer DVD then using programs like

1. DVD Decrypter from

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_decrypter.cfm

and

2. DVD Shrink from

http://www.dvdshrink.org/

will enable you to copy and compress to an ordinary 4.7gb DVD disk.

Easy way to check and see if your Drive supports double layer disks is to load up the nero drive\disc info tool..It will have a box checked if it supports it.
