HELP: vob to mpg file

I've renamed my DVD .vob files to mpg. Premiere had no problem opening the video clips and placing them back to back. BUT, Premiere seems to have dropped frames where the videos clips meet on the timeline. Not certain why this is happening; playback is very smooth during the rest of the video. So I'm thinking I need to capture video, from the DVD, to WMV or AVI prior to editing in Premiere. I'm also thinking about recording directly to hard-disc instead of DVD. Any suggestions?
