I am trying to get around buying a soundcard after my sound went out. I have an MSI R4670 with an HDMI output that has 7.1 Can I rig something up to still use my LCD (dvi)monitor and use the sound from the video card? I was thinking there might be an adapter that would go from HDMI to RCA(audio) or toslink.

Usually the TV/Monitor has the HDMI Input, if not you will need a breakout box:

There are 'Hdmi to RCA' adapters:

But wouldn't it be wiser to spend the same amount of money on a sound card?

Are you 'sure' that the sound card is defective? There are software problems that can cause audio problems.

The audio via HDMI is in digital form so you can't use a passive adaptor to the RCA analog inputs. You should be determining why your sound card has stopped working.
