How do I extract the audio from a video file, and then save it so that I can manipulate it and then replace the original audio.

In windows media maker under the Clip tab, it the audio options are greyed out.
I am guessing that who ever recorded it set the properties that way??

I've seen video files that appear to have no separate track for the audio. In order to obtain a separate audio track, you can re-encode the file to another format. Another possibility is to try using Adobe Audition. Audition has the ability to extract audio from a video file. This may not work on some video file formats.
