I have a Epson Sylus Photo 890 printer & the colour cartridge has run out....is there any way of still printing with black until a new colour turns up.

It may not be worth the hassle but you can download a utility called sscserve (google for it) and this allows you to overide the printers stored values and so convince it that it has a full colour cartridge. Personally I wouldn't bother as cartridges are dirt cheap and if the printer head dries up (through lack of ink) it can screw up things big time
