I have video on DVD and I need to delete parts, merege other parts together and then I need to save the video in MPEG format. What software would I need to purchase or download.

Many different programs for this and I have used a lot of them. The best I find is Pinnacle 9.4. Easy to use, less than $100 and will do exactly what you are asking.

I love MPEG2VCR. It doesn't do anything fancy, but it's great for cutting and pasting and VERY easy to use. It's by Womble. They have a newer editor that does more fancy stuff, but I prefer MPEG2VCR.
