While trying to copy a DVD burned on my sony camera to DVD on my laptop, some problem occured and now I cannot get the disc to open. (The original - never got it copied completely) - I am trying to repair the disc using DVD data Rescue from naltech, I think I have most of it figured out except when I get it to the preview pane, all that shows up is numbers and symbols. Is this correct? Or does this mean it can't recover the video? I am trying to figure my way through this as I go, we need this video as soon as possible, but I hate to pay for the registration if it won't work. WIthout registration, I can't save the recovered file, so I can't try opening it with a different program. It appears to be an .mpeg file. I have email naltech and have not been able to get a response yet, and this is a time issue. Can anyone help???

I guess I'm missing something. Why not either re-record it or better yet record it to the hard drive and then record it to the DVD disc?

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

Sorry -- I cannot get anything I have tried to recognize the disc. The computer no thinks it is blank, the camera no says it has a format error, dvd player says unknown disc. Recording to the hard drive is actually what I was trying to do in the first place, but it had a cyclic redundancy error. The disc was cleaned and the same problem happened. I tried to do as I had previously and repair the file using any dvd ,and somewhere along the way, lost everything and now I have nothing.
