Ok I talked to a computer store and they told Me I can't use a DVD Burner in my computer cause it's to slow...they say it's a minimum requirement to have a Pentium III 500mhz and 20 gigs of hard drive space. I can understand that if I were to watch DVD on my computer, but what if I downloaded a movie file and wanted to burn it on DVD and use the DVD in my home DVD player.... would these same specs still apply?
Thanks

I currently have a DVD burner in a secondary computer with a 550 PIII processor, that I use and have never had a problem with ripping or burning DVDs. Although I would agree that it probably wouldn't be up to playing DVDs. And even though it has burnproof technology I wouldn't have the computer doing anything intensive when burning a disc either.
So, yes, they are full of crap.

"with a 550 PIII processor, that I use"
Note tha tthe store person did say minimum requirement to be a PIII 500MHz but ArticWolf is sporting a PII 300MHz.
I have a PIII 800MHz running a CD Burner which had a minumim requirement of a PII 233MHz. (I also have a DVD burner on my P4 3GHz PC that burns good)
When talking minimums then you get the minimums out of it.
Common DVD burners suggest at least 1.4GHz to achieve pleasurable results.
The possibility exits that when attempting to install the device it may perform a hardware check where it may fail with only a PII 300MHz.

Thanks very much for the responses and it answers my question. Time to finally get rid of this dinosaur of a computer.
