I'm currently archiving some various DivX-encoded videos onto DVD-Rs, and I'm wondering if they'll be playable in DivX-compatible DVD players. Should a data DVD containing multiple DivX-encoded .avi files (and nothing else) be playable in a DVD player generally?
If it makes any difference, I'm using Roxio RecordNow! 6.5—it was bundled with my drive and I don't believe purchasing newer, full-featured software is justified for the little I would use it ...
It depends on the model of your DVD-player. Because now many of them are compatible with DivX and play them just fine. So,tell us please what player have you got?

If you just copy the avi films to dvd, I suppose they will play on a divx player.
To get the divx to play on any dvd player, you need to convert them to vob files. I use winavi, but nero has this ability. I don't know how to do it using Roxio. I found nero could take 2-3hours, winavi under an hour.
Before posting try google. Backup. Use anti virus software.

We, er, don't have one currently. We've always used the Playstation 2 for DVDs, but since I use it for gaming a lot, we're thinking of getting a standalone DVD player.
clive_pearce: Yes, I'm aware of the conversion required to create a normal video DVD. I want to save discs by keeping them as DivX files, though.
I don't think Roxio can convert, but I might be wrong.
