Hello,
I Have tv out on my computer and was wandering how do I hook satelite up to my computer so I can record shows and stuff on my computer. we currently have satelite services at my house in another room. would I have to put something on my dish and buy a receiver? Where do I get these things from?

You need to use the satellite receiver to decode the signal. You would have to use a splitter on the receiver RF output that goes to your YV and run a cable to your PC. Then you need a TV tuner card in your PC to connect that cable to. Unless you have a satellite receiver with a dual tuner, The PC will get the same station as the TV set is getting.

Most satellite receivers have a composite and svideo out put. Get a tuner card with these connections because the signal is much cleaner. Recording from the rf output gives a pretty low quality picture.

Hauppage has these input choices.

I should add one other note:

If you use svideo output and left and right audio from your receiver to the tuner card, you can record movies of pretty good quality.

Use Pinnacle Studio (or Pinnacle Liquid) as your video editor and you can produce some high quality DVD disks complete with Dolby surround sound (both prologic and digital)

I use Hauppage (connected to my receiver) and Pinnacle... No word of a lie, I can't tell the difference between my disks and a store bought disk.
