that sounds very strange. maybe the videos are encoded in a weird way that your computer cannot read them but that shouldnt be the case. is it a dvd digital camcorder or does it has its own memeory?

Is the camera a Video camera or a still image digital camera that has the capability to make a small movie?

Hit the Windows key and the Pause/Break key to get to your System Properties page to find out which operating system you are using. You can also find your processor speed (ususally) and how much RAM you have by looking on that same page.

While you are gathering information go ahead and also let us know the model number of that JVC camera.

You need a firewire card and cable to do this - USB cannot maintain the necessary speed.

JVC camcorders (I assume this is a camcorder??) can be temperamental when downloading to PC unless the firewire card chip is Texas Instruments.

USB will cope with the still images OK.

If you have DV in AND out then you can download the video, edit it and then put it back onto the tape for later viewing (since video files take up a lot of room on the HD. You'll need plenty of memory and disk space.

This is just simply not true!!

1) USB2 is just as fast and in some cases faster than firewire.

2) USB2 easily handles external harddrives which works at higher speeds than video.

3) If USB2 can handle external TV cards (which it does nicely) it can certainly handle movie cameras

4) I have a camcorder with both USB and firewire connect.... I can download faster with the USB.

USB2 is faster than firewire but relatively the same.

I have the option to use either with my camera and my PC.

I prefer the firewire only because it allows me to control the digital video camera from the PC whereas the USB connection does not.
