I have burned video clips from my camcorder onto my PC, and they play at normal speed on windows media player yet when i put them through vegas pro to edit together, the audio plays fine but the picture keeps sticking and plays slow

I've had this problem. It depends on the size and quality of the video. Above or below your video area, you should see "Preview (auto)", try changing that to either "Preview (quarter)" or "Draft (quarter)" see if that helps with the speed.
How much ram do you have and what video card are you running?
Abit AN8
AMD64 X2 4200 @2.5Ghz
Corsair 3Gig Dual-Channel 2x512 2x1gig
MSI Radeon x800 PCI-E
Seagate 160Gig SATA
Seagate 320Gig SATA
External 1T

I recommend you use cucusoft, it is good at burning videos to dvd movies on dvd+r, dvd-r, dvd+rw, dvd-rw, etc. It enables you to burn video files to DVD and make it play on DVD player
