A lot, but it depends on the size and quality of the photos. Check the file size of one of your photos and then divide 10gb by it.
Do yourself a favor BACKUP!!!

Thank you for your response, i use xd cards and will use the highest quality,but as the device would be used only for a fortnights holiday (otherwise i am home and able to backup to my pc)i want to make sure i can back up probably about 3to 400 photos.
